One of the things that makes Hells Canyon so special is how much of it remains remote.

Unlike many famous scenic destinations, there isn’t a highway following most of the river through the canyon. Large portions are most easily experienced by boat, raft, trail or horseback.

That remoteness is part of the experience.

Traveling by jet boat allows visitors to cover tremendous distances while seeing historic sites, wildlife habitat, geological formations and stretches of canyon that cannot easily be reached by passenger vehicle.

As you travel farther upriver, signs of modern development become fewer and the landscape becomes increasingly wild.
